Deployment & Piloting
If you can play a video game, you can easily learn to pilot an ROV in a pool in under an hour. Working in the real world with limited visibility, at extended ranges and with snag hazards introduces higher levels of complexity. Throw in a pitching boat as the operating platform and long hours of intense concentration and all of that can challenge even seasoned pilots. But, the experience can be well worth the effort. In addition to the pilot, most deployments include other roles including tether handlers, more affectionately called "tether monkeys," and sometimes sensor operators. |
